Hope everyone is having a great week!
So I think I've mentioned on the blog before that I enjoy decorating cakes with fondant. It is a hobby that started in 8th grade and one I have tried to keep up with. For an event we hosted last weekend, I decided to try out a new technique, marbling fondant. While quite simple, I was really worried I would somehow mess it up and end up with a cake that was covered in big blotchy patches of different colored fondant or a new scary color altogether. Thankfully, neither situation occurred and the cake turned out pretty well! (Well, I guess I'll have to let you guys be the judge of that) One thing I wish I had done was incorporate the white fondant more evenly into the marbling, because I think that would have resulted in a better pattern. That's something to remember for next time!
Hope everyone is having a great week!
The temperature is on the rise here and that means I can justify more cool sweet treats!
Growing up M&M cookie ice cream sandwiches were my favorite and definitely still one I reach for. But now, the varieties available are so unique and glam up ice cream sandwiches in a way I couldn't have imagined as a child.
Above are a few I either need to make or try sometime this summer. The churro one (#3) sounds good and it's always so cool to see the different ways people incorporate them into their desserts. The duche leche inspired one (#4) is a great reminder of how we can take a relatively casual dessert like an ice cream sandwich and turn it into a glam dessert by incorporating flavors and elements from more traditional and classic desserts.
And if you like fun and more kid-oriented desserts, there are so many popular cookie and cereal based ice cream sandwiches (even one with rice krispies!). You could have them as part of a ice cream sandwich bar at a kid's birthday or other party.(That's an idea to keep in mind!)
What was your favorite childhood ice cream treat?
On a separate note, I am so so sorry for the lack of posts these past couple of months! This past term in school was especially hectic, with many unexpected situations that really limited my creative time. I hope to get back into the swing of things over the summer and make plans to have more posts on a regular basis during the academic year.
Hope you all are enjoying the days leading up to summer. Stay cool!
Spring has sprung! Which means we can put the boots away and bring out all the fun and colorful sandals...Except, the rain is not quite ready to leave, so in the meantime, let's talk about denim shoes.
I bought my first pair about a year ago and since then have been searching for a higher heel for the warmer months. So above are six pairs I really like; all but #2 are high-heel open toe sandals. Speaking of number #2, what's your opinion on high-heeled sneakers? I like they're really cool, but know quite of few sneaker fans who say they defeat the purpose of a sneaker...
#1 is the most like the pair I already have and is really great for school and longer work days because of the wedge heel. But, if you are someone who is very comfortable with stilettos, #3, #4, #6 are all great options.
Going back to my search for a fun denim sandal for spring and summer, #5 is definitely my favorite! The medium shade of denim is summery and the bows add a simple feminine touch, making it perfect for casual summer outings.
As always. all comments, questions and suggestions are welcome! Hope you all are having a good start to your week!
Hope you all had a great weekend! Here in California, rain has been our constant companion!
As you can probably tell, potatoes are the star of the week. I had not thought much about potatoes recently until I watched a documentary about them during a class last week. The film was really interesting from a historical perspective but also reminded me of all the great dishes that can be made with potatoes. So I collected a few recipe ideas for myself and you all that we can make year-round!
#1 is of course garlic fries, a favorite here in California, especially in the North. #2, 4, & 6 are great as side dishes for dinner. And #3 is intriguing, I have never heard of mashed potatoes bites before. Have you? If so, let me know what you think of them (and if you have any recipe recommendations!)
Hope you all have a wonderful week!
Winter brings out the love of baking in a way no other time of year does. And who doesn't love cookies? I tried so many different types of cookies this past year and now I hoping to recreate some of them.
I tried Apple Pie Cookies a few weeks back and absolutely loved them! I am hoping these Apple Crisp Cookies (#1) are similar. Another flavor I have been enjoying lately is maple. Maple Pecan Scones are one of my new favorites, and think that these leaf cookies with a maple glaze (#3) sound delicious! The others are a bit more classic, except for #5.
Hope 2017 is going well for all of you so far! It has been a wet winter in California!
And as always, comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome! Let me know what your favorite cookie recipe is!
And just like that it is already the tenth of December! Where did 2016 go?
We have been having a surprising cool winter this year; it has actually been cold! Well, by California standards anyway. Fashion-wise, it's been great, I have been wearing a lot of my sweaters that otherwise just sit around when the seasons do not change. And since it has been a while since I have actively styled sweaters, I decided to look for some inspiration and share it with all of you.
As I have mentioned on the blog before, I love metallics! #1,2, 9 are great examples of how you can style metallic sweaters into both casual and dressy outfits. I also really like the idea of pastels in the winter, sometimes the constant mix of dark colors gets a bit boring. Pastel blue to me seems to be a very wintery color when styled well. It goes with the idea of snowy days and clear cold mornings. So now I need to find one.....
What have your sweater favorites been so far this year?
I always associate the colder months with warm desserts, specifically apple desserts. Most of the desserts here are ones I have tried, except for The Churro Waffles with Apple (#4) Wouldn't they be great to have for a late morning weekend brunch?
The apple fritters (#5) are another favorite at home, especially at tea time. So, once again, I have found more recipes I need to try sometime this fall or winter.
Hope you all are having a great week! As always, let me know if you have any recipe recommendations!
As the weather has began to cool down and rain is now a welcome visitor, I am constantly looking for a reason to turn on the oven. There's something exciting about taking out a tray from the oven filled with warm, buttery, and sometimes rich treats. My inspiration for this post contains both sweet and savory recipes. The ones I am most excited to try are the Cheesy Garlic Bites (#1), 30 Minute Orange Knots (#3), and Skillet Apple Pie Biscuits (#4). They look so delicious and all would be great addition to breakfast, depending on the rest of the menu.
I have actually made the Cheddar Bay Biscuits (this is a great recipe!) multiple times, and they've come out wonderfully!
Hope you all have a wonderful week! And as always, let me know in the comments if you've tried to make any of these treats or have suggestions of ones you have tried.
Hope everyone's having a great week so far and that Fall 2016 has gotten off to a good start. Here, we have been alternating between fall weather, summer weather, and even some winter weather! It has been a very unpredictable fall thus far, especially weather-wise.
For that reason, I have not been able to wear many fall outfits, most have been more summery of late. But, I think in the next week or so, fall should be settling it and I figured it was time to find some outfit inspiration for this season.
#1 is one of my favorite color combinations for the colder months, but for fall I would probably have more red and save the mostly black version for winter. #2,3,4 are ones I would probably try to recreate as similarly as possible with minor tweaks because I really love the different elements of each outfit and the how well they come together. #5 and #6 are outfits I like because of the great color combinations. And finally, #6. That dress is gorgeous and I would love to get something similar because it totally fits my personal style!
What kinds of outfits are you looking forward to/enjoying this fall? As always, let me know in the comments below!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your week!
Fall 2016 is officially here! It actually feels a little bit like fall right now in California, which is pretty exciting. The cooler months definitely inspire me to spend more time in the kitchen. I've put together a few recipes I think would be great to try this fall and a great addition to any menu. The two I am the most excited to try are the Pecan Pie Cookies and the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Swirl Muffins. The multicolored leaf cookies are a great kid-friendly idea for those days there are many extra (small) hands in the kitchen.
What's your favorite fall treat? Let me know in the comments below!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
So, there's really not much to tell. I'm a person of many interests, and enjoy talking to others about theirs.
